In 1579, at the end of a career studded with prestigious assignments, Andrea Palladio designed for the Olympic Academy a “theater on an ancient model but small and unspeakably beautiful”, as Goethe wrote in his Journey to Italy. A planimetric form, a social function and architectural details, however, severely shows it off from the Vitruvian body of rules of classical theater, enhancing its originality and making it an invention rooted in late-Alexandrian architectures visited and surveyed by Palladio at the Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli.

The Universities of Pavia and Oxford continued their investigations in Villa Adriana, in the area called Plutonium, traditionally interpreted as a reproduction of the Underworld, and located on one of the highest rises of the complex, in the east part of the Villa. The excavations took place from 1 to 21 July 2019. A team of 12 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers took part in the project, both from Oxford and Pavia Universities (S. Andronio, I. Nel corso del 2016 e 2017 la missione congiunta delle università di Oxford e Pavia ha condotto una serie di campagne di ricognizione, rilevamento (georadar e geomagnetico) e rilievo architettonico nell'area nota dalla letteratura archeologica come pertinente al Plutonium e Inferi di Villa Adriana. The essay is a development of Pier Federico Caliari's study for the Piazza d'Oro in Villa Adrina at Tivoli published in the magazine Ananke 84. Its subtitle is indeed Studio dal testo di Ananke 84. Some of Caliari's HYpothesis about the axial development of some parts of Villa Adriana are put in relation with geometrical tracement tools on one side and art of memory on the other side.

Following Doxiadis in his idea of mos maiorum linking eye and hand the essay deals with citizens' action in remembering. This is the opposite of Villa Adriana's paradigm. The focus is in the opposition between the ecleticism of Villa Adrina and th eregularuty of Ippodamus grid.
